Buying George A. Romero's Survival of the Dead (Pre-Theatrical Rental)

Sure, the main setting, Plum Island, is pretty absurd--but whatever. The island isn't meant to be real, it's meant to be allegorical, a microcosm of the current American social landscape. Two sides share a home, culture and more values than they'd like to admit, but can't muster an ounce of respect towards each other because of ideological differences (and more than a little bit of hate born out of "us vs. them" tradition); both patriarchs are corrupt, charismatic, stubborn and, every once a while, each one is right. A nice balance is struck between humor, commentary and gore. The main group of characters are outsiders who make their way to the island, four mercenaries and a rogue teenager. The individual characters aren't really delved into (we never even learn the teen's name), but I found the dynamics between the characters interesting enough to watch it more than once during my 48 hour rental.

I do think it got a bit disjointed in the last 20 minutes or so, as if important character scenes were edited out in the midst of the mayhem. I'm looking forward to the Deluxe DVD and, hopefully, a few deleted scenes.Get more detail about George A. Romero's Survival of the Dead (Pre-Theatrical Rental).
