I am not a real movie fan or at least I havent been in the past few years. Primarily because very few movies that come out of Hollywood interest me. There have been a few gems here and there but for the most part I usually wait for the DVD. I hate to admit this but I did not know this movie was even in existence until this week. Primarily because of what I said before.
In any case this movie is HE-LAR-REE-US. If watching kids walk around in any mall across the country, texting with their "pants on the ground hat turned sideways looking like a fool" doesnt give substantial credence to Mike Judge's premise of this film, then I dont know what does.
The fact that this movie was not widely promoted shows that Hollywood is afraid of a REAL look at the pop culture that they are at the center of. Hollywood makes lots of movies indicting the process of film making but not the outcome of the product they spawn.
There are countless articles, essays, books, documentaries made about the "devolution" of human society. While there is a lot of validity in the thesis of such works...yawn and stretch. This glaring in your face hammer over your head approach to the same commentary is much more entertaining and much more humorous.
I'm very selective about the DVDS I buy but I will be buying this film. What I wish is that Judge would do a part two to this film and show the devolution of European society. Would there be some differences? It would be funny to see.
A side note: I did not know that Mike was born in Ecuador. I did know he has a degree in Physics.Get more detail about Idiocracy.
