This movie is an 80's classic. Great comedy mixed with a great cast. The Hi-Def transfer to Blu-ray is also a significant improvement over the DVD releases. The only missing ommission is the Commentary track that exists on the DVD version. Had I known this I wouldn't have bought the Blu-ray and held out for a re-release WITH the commentary. BOOGIE NIGHTS is a great movie by all accounts -- great directing, acting, story, screenplay, photography, music...etc. PTA is probably the best director out there as of now. BOOGIE NIGHTS is an American Dramatic Epic about the 70's Porn scene in Southern CA. I own the DVD of the film but the BLU RAY experience was even better. The DOLBY TRUE HD audio pops with power and detail and makes me appreciate the sound mix even more; I should say that there is a little hiss and crackle in third act of the film in the audio track which I kinda liked but it may bother some people. Perhaps the original mix was created as an analog master (rare but doable) and hence retains superior fidelity but a few analog crackles in the DOLBY TRUE HD BLU RAY mix.

The BLU RAY picture quality is a dramatic jump above the DVD and Itunes HD which looks soft, compressed, and washed out in comparison. It looks like the BLU RAY used a TELECINE transfer from the 35MM which makes sense because PTA color corrected this film the classic analog chemical way instead of doing a Digital Intermediate. Color and resolution is full and they even preserved the stylish film grain which many BLU RAYS try and remove. I love that the grain was maintained in the image as it actually adds to the perceived texture of the picture and is closer to what the director PTA intended.

Director's commentary on this BLU RAY is one of the best out there and I wish PTA would do the same with THERE WILL BE BLOOD and MAGNOLIA.

Sorority Row Best Quality

Sassy, bitchy, scary and good-looking--Sorority Row more than pleased me since I wasn't expecting much. And when I read that this was yet another remake of an older fright flick, I was ready to destroy it.

Surprisingly, it proved to be lots of fun and the string of murders were amazing. What I liked in particular, besides the really excellent performance of the whole cast, was the terrific musical score b Ken Seng. The pounding music worked perfectly the hidden violence that explodes when you don't exp3ect it.

Twelve Angry Men Buy Now

I am happy to have this (with Robert Cummings as Juror #7) version of this excellent play. It is technically well done and the DVD print is fine. I have owned and watched the Henry Fonda film of "12 Angry Men" over the years and the TV version reaffirms how critical Fonda's performance was to the earlier production. (Cummings is OK but he lacks the bite that Fonda has). The rest of the cast is enjoyable in both versions. I have a small personal take on the play, having worked in an amateur production of the show years ago, with a mixed men-and-women cast and titled "12 Angry People." (A woman played #7.) 'District 9' is one of those movies that blindsided me - I had heard a little about it before seeing it, but few specifics. I was excited and hopeful, usually signs that I'm about to be disappointed. Not only did the film not disappoint, it went well beyond any expectations I had of it.

In terms of story, it's a film where very little is as it initially seems. You are presented with a deceptively simple scenario - a large alien craft has sort of broken down over Johannesburg, South Africa. The aliens within, numbering over one million, had to be rescued and brought to Earth, kept in a separate zone of the city (where the film gets its name). Their technology was advanced but only usable by the aliens. All this you learn in the first five or ten minutes, and the rest of the story develops from there at a breakneck pace.

The first impressions of characters you meet early on shift and pull back, revealing hidden facets and surprising twists. Initially weak people end up showing surprising strength, and people who seem initially unimportant become very important indeed. Pay attention to the details as you watch 'District 9' - it's well worth it, and almost a necessity to catch the subtle hints of character and depth as they develop. It quickly becomes clear that there is something not quite right in District 9, and whether that is coming from the aliens, the humans, or both is what is revealed, with deliberate and calculated pacing.

Stylistically, 'District 9' is just as impressive. The initial scenes are done in a broadcast news format to bring you up to speed with the story so far, and while the news team goes away relatively early, the style stays the same. The whole movie feels a little like a documentary shot on-location, in the moment, which results in a very genuine feeling overall. The effects are impressive and well-integrated into each scene, so much so that it becomes hard to tell what is effects and what is part of the scene. And after a while you just don't care, because the story grabs you and doesn't let go.

'District 9' is one pleasant surprise after another. Simply put, it's science fiction as it should be - an exciting story, believable characters, and a real personality. It avoids the grandiose and exaggerated and explores its ideas and themes in a very personal way. 'What if this were to happen?' it seems to ask...and the answer is frightening, hopeful, and enlightening all at the same time.

He owes her a favor so she is allowed to meet with the robbers in person to present a "deal". After she leaves, Detective Frazier also talks to the head of the heist and threatens him. Before Frazier leaves the robber says "I will walk out of here".

As Detective Frazier continues negotiations there are flashbacks of hostage interviews (so we know they are saved at the end) and witty scenes where the robbers are ordering pizza for hungry hostages.

Overall the movie is an energetic, witty, enjoyable thriller that weaves throughout Spike Lee's familiar touching on race, power and class issues.

The movie is GREAT. My complaint and reason for the one star is that it eems Sony got a bit sneaky with this one. They list a digital copy as part of the set. I paid more for this set expecting to get the digital copy. There is one problem... the digital copy only works with a Sony Playstation 3. It does say this on the back jacket of the disc set. However, when I ordered it off of Amazon, I had no idea until I opened the package. I was so disappointed when I missed Nine in the movie theater. I have a huge soft spot for musicals and thought that the all star cast would make for an outstanding film. Boy was I wrong!! There is on word that can summarize this movie: BORING. With a cast that includes such actresses as Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Judy Dench, and Penelope Cruz, one would think that the film would explode with action and fantastic acting. If this wasn't enough, the cast is led by the phenomenal Daniel Day Lewis and includes a musical appearance by Fergie. Yet, when all of these things are added together it proves to be a huge letdown and results in two hours of cinematic sludge.

The plot, if you can call it that, centers on the director Guido Contini and his various loves which range from his wife to his mistress, leading lady, and even the whore who gave him his first striptease. The characters aren't woven into the narrative. Instead, they are introduced, sing a song, and then are virtually removed from the film. Contini's wife has a bit more involvement as does his mistress, but the rest of the ladies are basically paraded through as a way to show Contini's philandering. A bit of a back story is tied together through flashbacks of Contini's childhood, but it does not add much to the plot or the understanding of his character. Even the songs seem lacking because they do not add anything to the plot. Instead, it feels like a concert in which each woman comes on stage to sing a song about her relationship with Contini and then is dismissed. With such powerhouse voices as Fergie, Penelope Cruz, and Nicole Kidman, I was expecting something more akin to Chicago or Moulin Rouge. But even their voices could not hold the film together. Eventually, I found myself wanting to fast forward the film to the songs only to be disappointed by their lack of emotion and impact on the audience.

Overall, I was clearly disappointed. The music was sub-par and the story wasn't compelling at all. The dancing was definitely exciting but overly sexual to the point that after three musical numbers, I felt like I was watching pornography. I'm just curious why anyone would just throw money away like that. hu lu has what a total of maybe 3 minutes of commercials per hour of content? So by this logic, you are being paid 1 dollar per minute of commercial watching, that's 60 an hour to get up and get some scooby snacks and not listen to the commercial. So if it's that bothersome, conversely, you can pay 1 dollar per minute to NOT watch commercials by paying the 3 dollars per 60 min of content on amazon. Gentlemen Broncos Get it now!

I am not sure how much time Gentlemen Broncos spent at the box office but I think it would be safe to assume it wasn't very long. Personally, I didn't hear about this film until a friend recommended it to me.

In short, the plot and characters echo and share many of the Hess's trademark characteristics; a remote setting somewhere in a small economically challenged mountain southwestern town (Utah), awkward and sometimes overly quirky characters, simplistic and comedic dialogue that relies more upon body language and facial expression, a nostalgic soundtrack and a short run time.

Fans of their previous and debut hit, "Napoleon Dynamite", maybe disappointed due to its unlikeable protagonist that makes his character somewhat rather difficult to route for. The reason for this unintended consequence is that Benjamin Purvis becomes more of a diluted version of Napoleon Dynamite; like Napoleon, he is a social pariah too. However, Benjamin aspires to become a successful writer as opposed to running for class president; and, unfortunately, this path leads him to satisfying a deeper feeling of revenge after an acclaimed author plagiarizes his work. One reviewer on this site put it more plainly, "Another geek on a revenge rampage". ( a very accurate description) The rest of the cast is serviceable at best with some reappearance's from their other films (Hector Jiminez Nacho Libre) along with some new comers such as Sam Rockwell and Jemaine Celement who plays the most redeeming character of all, Ronald Chevalier. Their two characters are quite possibly the funniest; Sam Rockwell plays Benjamin Purvis's main hero Brutus/Bronco in "Yeast Lords" who battles cyclop enemies in a 70's sci-fi world with psychedelic colors and vibrant backdrops.

Ronald Chevalier, the supposed "acclaimed" author at the writing camp, steals this work of art (Yeast Lords) when his publisher threatens to drop him entirely from their publishing company because he is not generating enough sales. As a last act of desperation and a very poor one indeed, Chevalier blurts out "Moon Fetus", (one of the funniest scenes in my opinion) where his publisher abruptly hangs up on him in disappointment. After throwing all of the student's novels from his seminar in an enraged hissy fit, he stumbles upon Benjamin's Purvis's novel entitled, "Yeast Lords". It is at this point where the plot begins to run it's course and all of the characters shine in full bloom.

The film is entertaining but the intermittent cuts between the actual film, Gentlemen Broncos and Benjamin's Purvis's "Yeast Lords" with the exception of Sam Rockwell's flamboyant character comes off as obnoxious and does not add any real comedic value or substance. But once again, Sam Rockwell's character as Brutus is hysterical. (Can't stress this enough) and Jemain Clement steals the show with his monotonic and intellectual voice, not too mention his outfits are also a riot. This film is worth a rent, given the short run time, (82 minutes), cheap laughs and somewhat enjoyable characters. However, if you are holding this film to the expectation of Napoleon Dynamite or some other explosive hit, beware.Get more detail about Gentlemen Broncos.

I love this show but there is a MAJOR issue with the VOD episodes - the music has been changed! All the wonderful classic rock songs have been replaced with awful random songs that completely ruin the atmosphere of the show.

I think it is completely unethical of Amazon not to warn its customers that these episodes do not contain the same music as the broadcast and DVD versions. Locked Up Right now

This movie is in mixed language--English and German. Most of it is in German. But it is easy to follow. I really enjoyed it even though I don't speak German. The plot is very good. It is not boring at all. The guys are very good looking with nice bodies. There is a good amount of frontal nudity. They try to give good shots of the naked, nicely built guys.

I can't criticize this movie because I don't know if my experience was due to the Amazon's VIDEO ON DEMAND rental or if it was the movie itself. I will criticize ON DEMAND below. But my problem with the video was that although you got good shots of the men's bodies (and quite often), the details of their genitals were not clear--such as the distinction between the head and the shaft. It was hard telling for sure who was circumcised and who was not. So those details were not clear. But their bodies were nice and I enjoyed the movie anyway.

The movie contains one rape scene, sodomy, several masturbation scenes, and nice shower scenes. I don't remember seeing any oral sex. The sodomy scenes were rare.

Subtitles appear whether you want them to or not. There are no options. They only appear when English is NOT being spoken. Sometimes they get in the way and at least with the HORRIBLE ON DEMAND VERSION, they are sometimes Impossible to read!

Amazon's VIDEO ON DEMAND is not good. I certainly WOULD NOT buy a video through them at the prices they want. The quality is HORRIBLE!

1) I've watched 2 movies with ON DEMAND neither one was clear. I thought I'd try another to be sure it was NOT the movie. The pictures are not sharp and you may have to spend time adjusting the lighting to get the best picture.

2) Although the UnBox player will allow you to maximize the picture to fill the screen, the resolution Amazon provides is not good enough to benefit from the feature. They give you just enough but nothing more. When i maximized the screen, the movie was HORRIBLE. I could not tell the different between the people and the white wall behind them. Sunlight or any type of light was too bright and prevented the people from being seen. So the movie has to be watched without the greatest possible viewing space.

3) The subtitles weren't always legible because of the bad resolution and quality of the downloads. Don't expect the picture to be BETTER than the preview online. I thought that downloading the movie would be at a higher resolution thereby providing a better quality than the quick preview. I WAS WRONG!

4) There was no option for subtitles. You have very little control over the movie.

Unless you want something quick or you want to sample the movie before buying it, I don't recommend using ON DEMAND rental and certianly NOT for purchase!

If you don't use it, they will either ditch it or provide better quality!

Perhaps they will explain to us one day how it is they border on being psychic. I have always loved dolphins deeply, and have been angered at the thought that we capture them...for any reason. My childhood nickname in Spanish was "Tonina" ("Dolphin").

This film, a horrifying, compelling and consummate documentary tells of the town of coastal Japanese Taiji Town, as it is officially known (it's shortened to Taiji, which literally means Tai Temple). There, in that coastal prefecture is the "Cove"--a spooky natural cove deep in the coastline. Nearly 30,000 dolphins are massacred there from September to the following March each year. The carnage is so disturbing that when I saw it, I thought I was seeing human murder for a moment...and I was reminded of the concentration camps.

If that seems sensitive and "tree-hugging" to you, then you are a soulless monster uncaring about our earth--and our future. Dr. O'Barry, already much mentioned in the other reviews, is a caring, dedicated soul who ironically is responsible for the public 'hunger' for dolphins. He did all the dolphin work for the TV show "Flipper", and that was his intro to these small cetaceans. Not that we have them in our homes as we saw in the film 2010 (remember what year this is!!). But in Japan, people are being surreptitiously fed dolphin meat, obtained by the violent, obnoxious fishermen from the Cove.

One thrilling section of this documentary showed how George Lucas' Industrial Light and Magic became involved in the cove exposure mission, by designing hidden cameras and hydrophonic sound recording systems. They had to act like CIA and Navy Seals to get the equipment in and then set it up...but it worked. Had they been caught there at the cove, the fishermen would have killed them. And then probably put them in with the dolphin meat.

It always struck me that the governments of the world could do a lot better to save all our precious resources, but we know they don't give a damn about that. This film showed me just how arrogant, snotty and careless they are--how psychopathic they all are. They know and do nothing. Dr. O'Barry has been barred from most marine biology gatherings. They all know what he's going to tell them.

The savage killing of the dolphins in that little Japanese cove is nauseating and tear-inducing. In a society that covets tickets to Sea World, that fawns over save-the-whales movies and dolphin TV shows, no one cares that we're poisoning our oceans and ourselves right now. No one seems to care that this planet will soon strike back, killing us off by the millions, just to preserve itself.

My terrible, personal pain is that it is too late. O'Barry said, if we cannot stop what is happening in that Japanese cove, we cannot stop anything. Well, I say we cannot stop anything; we've proved that so many times I'm basically just waiting to die of 'natural' causes like mercury poisoning or what we call "exposure cancer".

Get this awful film--an excellent, beautiful documentary that wastes no time or resources--because it is awful, the awful lesson of what he have done to ourselves, each other, our planet. Save Free Willy: Escape from Pirate's Cove

The 4th movie of the Free Willy series is truly a delight. I loved every minute of it! Bindi Irwin was truly amazing as Kirra. It is so amazing how much she looks like her father, and carry's on his legacy through her knowledge of animals, and her love for them...which makes this even better, because you can tell her passion for animals is really genuine. I also thought the scenery was so beautiful, the acting by all the cast was excellent, and this movie ranks up there as being just as wonderful as the other Free Willy movies. I thought the ending was very powerful and emotional, that it made me cry. Hearing the song by Bindi Irwin while the credits were rolling were amazing, and I recoginized her voice immediately. Bindi Irwin seems so down-to-earth, like I said before a genuinly passionate person, and I hope she remains following in her father's footsteps.

I am defintely going to buy it, and on blu-ray, so I get the highest quality, and so I can see the bonus features, because the one I rented didn't have any on there.

We bought this to watch with our 4 and 7 year old granddaughters. The 7 year old loved it, especially the dinosaur chasing the bone and the saucy little monkey. It might have been above the 4 year old level in the beginning. Purchase Ong Bak 2: The Beginning

Ong Bak 1 is among the best martial-arts films. Obviously, with that in mind I was excited for this sequel. But really, Ong Bak 2 has basically nothing to do with the original -- owing more to Tony Jaa's other movie, The Protector. At least they both have elephants in them.

Ong Bak 2 has some amazing fights, as well as some breathtaking settings. Tony Jaa is truly a great martial arts actor, and watching him effortless switch kungfu styles on the fly is a joy. There are some really long fights where nary a mistake is made. Thus, if you're purely watching the movie to see some killer beat-downs, then charge in head-first. If your tastes are a bit more discriminating, however, you'll likely be disappointed.

The story is not a good one. The "prince turned prince of thieves" formula can work, but not when there is no motivation. We have no reason to support Jaa's character except that he does cool moves. Even the training montage is sorely lacking. The one semi-twist is met with no emotion, from either the film's cast nor those of us watching. I don't know if the finger of blame can be pointed at Jaa himself -- who's credited for both directing and story -- but the fact is it's just not a good narrative.

The biggest sin of the story, however -- and the biggest problem with Ong Bak 2 -- is that it's not a complete movie. Much like people complain how Halo 2 seemed to end just as it reached its apex, so too does Ong Bak 2. It's basically sticking its tongue out at you, making you wait for a sequel for any closure for the events it is setting up. That's bad form.

On the taste front, I prefer the more modern, urban setting of Ong Bak 1. Tony Jaa jumping off walls and diving through narrow windows is more to my taste than battling in 15th Century villages, though the fight he has in this film on top of an elephant is pretty epic.

I'm a lifelong martial artist and involved in the film-fighting field, and I still can't recommend purchasing this movie. It doesn't even have a proper gag reel! Rent it to marvel at the fights, then move onto something with more substance -- such as Jet Li's Hero. I am 67 years old and have seen lots of movies over the years. I don't consider myself a "prude", but as long as movies like this one are made the public will buy them and that is a crying shame. It makes a horrible example to young people and older people as well because the language is horrible (and to my way of thinking is not necessary).
