Something, Something, Something Dark Side Immediately

I don't know if it's the comparison to Blue Harvest or that it's difficult to just satirize The Empire Strikes Back while including the majority of the plot, but Something Something Something Darkside just kinda missed the mark. The entire program felt a little rushed, taking too long for some of the gags and speeding through others. If you've watched the trailer, the only really funny part you missed were the cracks at Fox in the credits at the beginning.Get more detail about Something, Something, Something Dark Side.

The Godfather Part III (The Coppola Restoration) Best Quality

The only problem with this collection is that its viewers grow to love and admire characters who are doomed to hellfire, if such punishment exists for those who cause suffering to others. And these gangsters create abominable suffering on a large scale. Too often we are shown the personal lives and feelings and families of the men who commit atrocities, and we recognize qualities which are sympathetic, even sadmirable. Make no mistake, however. The aforementioned being the case this collection contains, perhaps, the greates movie ever made(I), another movie of incredible magnitude(II), and a third which is very good. Already a classic, the collection will be viewed like people read Shakespeare - seemingly forever.Get more detail about The Godfather Part III (The Coppola Restoration).

9 Get it now!

I disagree with comments that this film is either tedious or predictable. I had no idea where the film plot was going and I have never seen a film like this; I challenge the idea that anyone watching this film 'knew' where the plot was going. The film is very well paced with no real down time.
In terms of the design of the film it is nothing less than brilliant and the angel is in the details. The dystopian visual archetypal conjurings of H.G. Wells, "War of the Worlds" and George Orwell's, "1984" are an achievement.
"9" is CGI at its very best. This is no film for children and that's for sure - it would probably scare the pants off of them at a certain age simply for it's downbeat tone. I loved the fact that this film stayed within itself and didn't try and be some amazing blockbuster with cutesy plot threads.
"9" is certainly not a film for everybody but the talent that went into making it is undeniable. What an eccentric and weird film.
As far as the voices go, only Plummer's was so distinctly effective that it merited a known voice. I take issue with the effectiveness of using famous actors in animated films. Most of the time one isn't even aware of them and it's a waste of production money; I think it's done more to hype the films than for any other reason.
The crazy visions of that film will stay with me a long time.Get more detail about 9.

Intolerable Cruelty Buy Now

There is a great cast here, nice music by Carter Burwell, and lovely production design. The problem is the script, which suffers for the same reason that the one for The Hudsucker Proxy did: the Coens wrote it with other people. When the brothers work only with each other, they produce better work. When working with a writing team, the script suffers.

Young Lady Chatterley Order Now

The world of cinema does come in threes. For the past two weeks, films have come through my viewing palettes that have befouled my overall excitement for cinema. In a standard rut, one hopes that these final two films will prove otherwise, but keeping my fingers crossed will not be helpful. From nurses in love and an Americanized Harvey Keitel, nothing could have prepared me for the upcoming triumph known as "Young Lady Chatterley". Tagged as the first "X-rated movie to touch you where it counts ... your heart", one pleads with the DVD box to please allow some semblance of a story to push through the "romps" on the grass, but alas, my voice went unheard. This entry into the world of D.H. Lawrence's classic story proves that the naughty bits do make a film, and the late 70s were not afraid to experiment. With lush backgrounds, deepened British accents, and the downtrodden theme of finding an unbridled love free of boredom, "Young Lady Chatterley" attempts to mask the honesty that it is a softcore erotica film. It attempts to say that with these other elements thrown into the mix, we are not just your normal late-night darkened viewing, but instead something of some class and/or cult standing. As a reviewer of this film, one must look at both elements to examine if this film accomplished what it set out to do. How was production value? Was there a determined story? How were our characters? Because it is softcore erotica, should it not be placed within these same rules? While others will argue "no", "Young Lady Chatterley" is a film, and how does it rank among other films of this nature? Not to disappoint, but poorly.

Classical England would ask, "Doth a scenery make strong erotica?" While it seems the general reviewer of this film would agree, I had trouble seeing the production value or lush scenery in "Young Lady Chatterley". There wasn't anything that stood out, minimal sweeping wide shots, over-lighting throughout, and that soft camera filter that made the 70s what they are today were staples within this film. If anything, they were overused to the point of obscuring the actor's work. Leaning further towards the notion of softcore cinema than actual plot-induced cinema, we can look at our actors, to see what their production value was within this 1977 classic. Harlee McBride, our lead and lady-in-waiting, begins bored, with both life and obviously this role, but as soon as she steps on our twice-removed-once-loved-Chatterley estate, the love and life begin to pour out of her - literally! With everyone imaginable, she shares herself and takes into form an unrecognizable character. Was she married to Phillip? Was she just engaged? How did it go from Phillip to every person at the estate? The transition, like her character, just didn't fit. She lacked that sexual manipulation that was needed to make this film into something more than just the overabundance of love. There was no change in her or her character, we were handed nothing to begin with - and just expected to believe everything that occurred. Poor direction by Alan Roberts lead to disinterested characters. Not only with Harlee McBride, but also with everyone else. The burly young gardener, the maids, the obviously oblique servants, everyone invited to the finale cake party - just seemed disjointed from the rest of the film.

With no strong characters, a plot that left nothing to the imagination or hope, there really was nothing left of "Young Lady Chatterley". In fact, I am rather surprised that the Lawrence estate allowed the name to be used for this film. What did stand out, as the only creativity within a mile, was the surrounding story of the first Lady Chatterley and her first run in with the gardener. The character depth, the excitement of young love, and the passion that could not be surprisingly were all there for these brief sub-scenes. The connection between the original lovers vs. that of the new "Young" version, was surprisingly different. The first had purpose and meaning, while the other was just softcore dribble. The conversations between the first Lady Chatterley and the gardener seemed responsive and open for discussion, giving at least one purpose to this film - while the rest, well, was utterly disappointing.

VIDEO: The release of this DVD was not surprisingly sub-par compared to any newer restorations, other films (cult or otherwise) from the 70s get better treatment than this. From the use of softcore to destroy a classic tale, this Alan Roberts film failed on nearly every level.

VISUAL: Again, the 70s used quite a bit of techniques that continues to make this film feel like a 70s film. The ending was horribly filmed, and the use of a couple of special effects (of which I mean the rain shower), was laughable.

SOUND: Coincidentally, everything matched. The sound went par with the visuals, creating an ambiance of 70s that will never pull "Young Lady Chatterley" into anything but a late night film view.

EXTRAS: Surprisingly, they didn't skimp here. The a-typical cast biographies that work as a page view, the jump to a scene, the posters of this film, and the other films available via Monterey Video are just packed in enough to perhaps call this a "collectors" edition, but would rather not. Again, a plethora of extras with nowhere to go.

Overall, another milestone has been hit. The third bad film in a row provides me with an opportunity to watch my first adult classic, but let's me down entirely. The sub-stories was creative, but the rest of the film was meant for one sole purpose. "Young Lady Chatterley" may have been pioneering for the time, but over the decades, it has just been forgotten and replaced. There is a way to create a story like this and actually be artistic, but it was ignored in this film. This wasn't a cult classic, it was just cinematic garbage. The story didn't work, our characters were merely naked, and no development to anything was created. While others boast the lush scenery as being a positive mark on this film, it just wasted time. The soft-lens treatment of this film blurred away anything interesting from this film, and delivering another cinematic flop.

Grade: * 1/2 out of *****Get more detail about Young Lady Chatterley.

Gutterballs Decide Now

About five minutes into this rape-vengeance-slasher you'll know whether this movie's for you.
If you last more than fifteen you'll actually be surprised at how much gore, camp, sleaze,
sex, rape, creative deaths, & undesirable characters can fit onto one disc.
I (an admitted gorehound) thought it was totally sick, way over the top, & campy in every way, shape, and form.
The very definition of shock-schlock.
I had to walk out of the room during the bowling pin penetration scene, while my wife stayed & watched with disgust.
(yes, you read that correctly)
It's definitely a throwback to bad 80s theme-slashers the likes of William Lustig flicks,
(whose movie, Maniac, they spoofed on the back cover)
with a hint of Joe D'Amato.
But it was also pornographic at times, not erotic either - sleazy,
Like Divine from Pink Flamingos sleazy.
If I found out that this was released by Troma (it wasn't ) I wouldn't be the least bit surprised.
I will say the sound was waaaay the heck off,
like they had one microphone, and everyone was trying to shout into it at once.
(I understand the reason behind it, but it's a throwback that should stay buried in the past)
The characters were so annoying you couldn't wait for them to die.
I wanted to bash that one guys face in myself,
he kept smiling that real irritating smile, like a mentally-deranged squirrel.
The fun part is every character is so undesirable, that when they die.. you cheer.
And rightfully so as gore is the real star here.
You can see they were trying to be creative with the deaths,
while still maintaining a certain level of shock.
As such every death is bowling/sex themed.
But as this was a rape/vengeance tale in a bowling alley you can understand why every death was bowling/sex themed.
The bowling shoe scene being the most retarded,
and the ball waxer scene being the best!!!!
This was actually a step back from the overly gory Live Feed, Nicholson's previous effort, which felt more professional, and restrained.
But it was a step back I found myself enjoying a bit more.
4 out of 5

MORAL OF THE STORY:
A perfect game is one your opponent can't walk away from.

OBITUARY:
Long rape scene, bowling pin penetration, death by sixty nine, genital mutilation, deep-bowling pin-throat,

Pilot Right now

This is a review of the whole season, not just one episode.

This show is promising. In its present rendition, it comes in more like 3.5 stars but with some added punch and oomph to its storyline, it could easily climb to 4 stars.

The premise is that Hank, an excellent emergency room doctor, ends up employed as a concierge doctor in the Hamptons. He pays house calls in emergency situations, usually to people who do not want the publicity of checking into a hospital.

Hank's brother, an accountant, manages him. His brother is far more into the Hampton's lifestyle than Hank himself is. He is more comic than Hank because he is always sticking his foot into it.

The most interesting aspect of the show so far is the medical one. Each week some new case presents itself and Hank must fix the patient under less than ideal circumstances. It is interesting to me that some people are more interested in how they might appear in gossip columns than in saving their lives in emergency situations.

So far this show is still developing itself and which characters to keep. The only two keepers so far are Hank and his brother.Get more detail about Pilot.

Low Price Pilot

Review of whole series not just one episode.

Lots of Americans grew up in family businesses. I was one of them and I think running your own business does build a certain kind of insanity through the family. No one epitomizes this better than the beleaguered Bluth family. Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) is that one sane one whereas his mother, his brothers, his sister, et al, swirl around him pursuing their own best interests (never anyone else's best interests and certainly not the family business's best interest). Ron Howard who produced the show also narrates it and does a wonderful job of it. The business is tanking in the wake of the senior Bluth's (the pater familias) financial wrongdoing within the firm.

The biggest discovery for me on this show was Michael's lothario older brother played by Will Arnett. I have been tuning in Will Arnett ever since this show and he is funny in everything I see. I had never seen him before this show. Most recently I saw him vie with Alec Baldwin's Jack on 30 ROCK for NBC's CEO position. He played a gay corporate type to perfection.

I loved Jeffrey Tambor on LARRY SANDERS so was glad to see him playing the pater familias and his twin brother Oscar. Tambor always brings a level of inept smarminess to his semi villainous characters. They don't ever quite make it to being villains because he is always shooting himself in the foot as he tries to pull off a nefarious act. His character is in prison in this series and he is particularly self absorbed yet bumbling from there. if the father is smarmy, the mother, played by Jessica Walter, is the ultimate as the matriarch with a thousand schemes afoot, all to promote her own best interests. She takes manipulative to a whole new level.

Portia DeRossi plays Michael's greedy twin sister. She is good but it is her sexually waffling husband (David Cross) who is the character to watch. One of his many baffling but hilarious acts is to leave his career as a psychiatrist to become an actor.

This was a very funny show which I totally enjoyed. HBO did it again, of course.

Cheapest Star Trek: Insurrection

First things first. I see a lot of reviews here actually seem to be about the movies themselves. This is not the place. For that, go to IMDb. Instead, I'm going to review this product, which is the box set of the first ten Star Trek movies on DVD. Well, I'm also going to review the DVDs themselves collectively, but not as movies.

First impressions: Nice and simple. Basically, they just took all of the special edition DVD releases and packaged them into a paperboard box. The box lists all of the movies on the top and side, a picture of Kirk on the front end, and a picture of Picard on the back end. Star Trek: The Motion Picture (ST:TMP) looks a little out of place in the set; all the rest of the DVD covers have more or less the same design with a brushed-metal background, but ST:TMP is totally different and has a yellow background.

On closer inspection, there are a few issues. Most noticeable is that the individual DVD packaging is rather shoddy. On some cases, the jacket (which holds the cover sleeve in place) is not fully attached and can end up folded back when the case inserted back into the box, probably leading to eventual complete detachment, so that the sleeve might get separated. The casing itself on a couple of cases is poorly fabricated, with numerous extra incompletely cut bits of plastic (especially around the closing snaps), and one case doesn't even join properly at the top when closed. Also, the retaining hubs look flimsy, though they do seem to be easy to use.

Moving on to the discs themselves, my fairly new (good quality) DVD+RW drive has trouble even recognizing most of the discs for some reason; however, after installing an ancient 12-year-old DVD-ROM drive I happen to still have and testing with it, they work just fine. It might be the copy protection, or it might be something with the newer drive, but they're not compatible.

On the plus side, the content is pretty good, technically speaking. The first two movies are Director's Editions, which means they've been recut according to their respective directors' wishes, a definite improvement for ST:TMP, which originally was missing many important special effects. I'm not familiar with the changes in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, but no doubt it was remastered, as the picture looks a lot better than the previous release. The rest of the DVDs are Special Collector's Editions; I don't know what that means, aside from the presence of an audio commentary, a text commentary, and lots of featurettes. But wait--I and II have those too; I guess the only difference is, the rest of the movies are largely unchanged (are they?).

All of the movies include 5.1 sound mixes, preferable IMO to Dolby Surround if you have the equipment. Dolby Surround is available in all cases; I have no idea how faithful it is to the original mixes, though it's important to note that II-VI were released in 70 mm format with 6-track sound, so 5.1 may be more faithful anyway. Even better, the TNG movies all include DTS mixes, which carry much better dynamic contrast than Dolby Digital; loud sounds actually have punch instead of being merely a little louder (and it's said that DTS is also clearer). Well, that's how it works out on my setup anyway.

Overall, a pretty good box set if you want all ten of these movies together. I would give 5 stars, but I'm taking one off due to all the annoyances mentioned above.Get more detail about Star Trek: Insurrection.

Shop For The Descent 2

Did we really need a sequel to The Descent? The 2005 horror opus from Neil Marshall (who serves as an executive producer here instead of writer/director) remains one of the absolute best and most terrifying horror films to be released in the past decade, which is one reason why a sequel not helmed by Marshall rang all sorts of alarms in me upon first hearing about it. However, The Descent: Part 2 winds up not being terrible in the least, and in its own right is a frequently scary and compelling film, but it just can't live up to the surprisingly lofty heights that the first film grasped. Shauna Macdonald returns as Sarah, as the film picks up right where the first one left off. Upon her discovery, she is forced to accompany a group of rescuers into the caves that she escaped, with some grisly and bloody results. While there is a good amount of gore, shocks, and solid scares, what The Descent: Part 2 lacks is the kind of character and overall story development that helped make the first film so compelling. Not to mention the fact that there is a good degree of events that happen here that betray what happened in the first film, and an ending that manages to be both shocking and a bit confusing. Still though, for what it's worth, The Descent: Part 2 is a solid horror flick, just don't go in expecting anything as great as the first film was.Get more detail about The Descent 2.

Ocean's Thirteen

4.3 stars

I was pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable this one was. Nobody takes it too seriously, yet there's a lot of quality here, both in the easy humor and interplay of the cast, and in the occasionally spectacular cinematography by Soderbergh. Even the script is quite good.

What isn't good is the transfer to both dvd and blu-ray. I watched the dvd and was amazed at how washed out and grainy it was, so I rented the BD, and it was no better. The only positive is that the crappy transfer saturates the colors even more than they already are, and it suits Soderbergh's splashy, neon vision of Vegas quite well.

The real star here is the camera, and it's used to perfection, sweeping down gleaming hallways and floating over the very nicely CGI'ed Bank Hotel. SS has become a very sharp director, getting fine performances from all his actors while framing them, the town, and its cheesy architecture in a style reminiscent of both the best noir and '70s crime flicks. The music echoes it all and Ocean's 13 becomes quite a pleasure to watch if you're a fan of either of those genres.

You need to turn off your logic filter, though, as the plot has endless holes, but none of this is meant to be taken too seriously. Pacino gets this and turns in a very funny performance in its own edgy way. Ditto for Barkin. In fact, everybody in the movie is fun to watch, and Pitt and Clooney make a truly great team. You can imagine the fun these guys all had shooting this in Vegas and it shows up on screen. There are plenty of laughs to go around and it's all a breezy good time.

Pure fluff, but very entertaining fluff done with technical brilliance, O13 is well worth seeing if you like any of these actors, great cinematography, Vegas, and crime capers in general. Even the weak transfer is easy to let go of; it adds its own grainy color and in some ways fits in just fine.

Othello (1995) Get it now!

When I first read that Laurence Fishburn starred in this version of Othello, I was slightly disappointed. I know Fishburn from his early films which included "Boys in the Hood" and "School Days" However, from the moment he appeared on the screen, Fishburn took ownership of the title role. He played with such convincing passion and jealousy that I was mesmerized by his portrayal of "the Moor." I know I will watch this film over and over. The sets, the costumes were very authentic, and added tremendously to the film's attempt to capture the time period of the play. The implications of Iago's homosexuality was a bit comical and could have been presented with more subtlety than satirically. I would have preferred the implication of inherent jealousy. Iago is a great character and very complex. Overall, the production was first rate.Get more detail about Othello (1995).

Low Price King Corn

King Corn tells the truth. No one in my area wants to rent a farm with farm buildings. Farm management experts at [...] advise tearing down most, if not all, buildings. At one time there were neighboring 'ghost farmsteads' with trees, orchards, but no mailboxes. Most of those remnants are now gone.

I've burned down all my wooden buildings, except for the 'century house'. I'm 75. When I'm gone someone else can raze that.

The impoverishment and de-humanizing of Iowa is deliberate government policy, the opposite of some European countries. Our present system does work well for huge agricultural supply and commodity conglomerates.

High tarrifs on imported cane sugar exacerbate the problem. The goal is to keep Americans eating inferior corn sugar products at protected prices.

It takes a lifetime of on-farm experience to successfully operate a viable 'sustainable agriculture' farm. Such expertise is dying or dead. Iowans raise 'export kids' to find careers in other states.

The DVD 'King Corn' tells the true story on many levels. The rationale for providing much food at low cost is deeply flawed and unsustainable, but highly appealing to the 'sound bite' crowd. Food that is truly 'good for you' may cost twice as much in stores and four times as much in restaurants. Are you ready, willing and able to pay for good quality rather than poor quantity?

I had missed the beginning of it so i just had no idea. Later on i saw the cover of a DVD in my local video store which had
Little Eddie on it,i then realized that this was it.I promptly hired it and watched it...WOW...I'd never seen anything like it
and i became an instant fan.
It begs repeated viewing, parts of it are almost embarassing to watch...others will tear you heart out...others still, will make you howl with laughter for days.
The sequel is just as good with a much better quality audio soundtrack,i especially enjoyed Little Eddie's fashion montage with
Hildegarde'song:"I dream too much"..very touching.
I'd recommend this boxset, this is one you want to keep and share with selected friends...let's face it.It's not for everyone.
Also keep watching the credits on the 1st documentary at the very end you hear a phone call between Little Eddie and David
Maysles...a sort of a closure moment..very nice!!!Get more detail about Grey Gardens.

Buy The Game

Michael Douglas stars as Nicholas Van Orton in this great thriller. On his birthday, Nicholas younger brother Conrad (played by Sean Penn) tells him he should play a game. He is hesitant at first but goes thru with it and the movie really takes off from there with various twist and turns. The ending was a little over the top but doesnt take away from the movie. Douglas is great in the lead role and Penn does a good job as well. This is a must watch if you enjoy movies that keeps you guessing.Get more detail about The Game.

Purchase Tristan And Isolde

It's nice to see all the reviews supporting this film. It's a story that was passd down through troubadours (along with Robin Hood) and has had a myriad of written versions and a few film versions. I was surprised this was the work of Kevin Reynolds. I enjoy his films, as he is known for "Waterworld" and "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves". I thought "The Count of Monte Cristo" was excellent, but this is by far Reynolds best film to date, and probably is smallest budget film.. proving once again real excitement does not come from $100 million special effects, but from atory. The action of the film serves purpose and story and is exhilarating because of what's at stake. Tristan & Isolde is beautifully rendered here. James Franco would not have been my first thought, but he is quite good. Convincing as warrior and lover and Franco made the risky decision of favoring a more serious and tormented Tristan, which works very well here. Sophia Myles is radiant as Isolde. She's gorgeous, sympathetic and strong. Rufus Sewell is heartbreaking as Marke, who ends up being cuckolded by the young lovers, but Reynolds never makes the mistake of turning him into a bastard. The film takes the romantic cliches and makes them much more complex and hence, tougher to watch. The movie (for its reportedly small budget) looks fantastic. The cinematography is lush and gorgeous, the battles are thrilling, costumes and music are all spot on. This is a new classic, while it made a modest profit at the box office hs only gained popularity. Like all the great love stories. Highly recommended. I am hopeful this will be released on Blu ray soon. I bet the movie looks and sounds amazing in HD!Get more detail about Tristan And Isolde.

Order Thank You for Smoking

Less than 12 hours after I finished this novel, I ran out and rented the movie. Though they share the same title and some of the same plot points, the novel and movie are completely different. In order to make the movie stay within in an hour and a half, the director/screenwriter took out a main character who was crucial to the novel. In doing so, the film has a completely different feel than the movie. The moral of the book is to basically watch one's back because a friend or co-worker could be your greatest enemy. However, the moral of the movie is that you should never tell anything to a reporter even if you are sleeping with her and she seems sweet. In other words, the enemy is from the outside. Due to this, the ending of the novel and that of the film are almost exact opposite of each other. While the film eliminated a pivotal co-worker character, it added Nick's son. Though the scenes between father and son were humorous, I don't believe that it added anything to the movie. In contrast, the book only mentions Nick's son once or twice which further shows Nick's alienation from his family and any kind of love. Lastly, the novel puts a great emphasis on Nick's relationship with the owner of the Academy of Tobacco Studies (known as the Captain). It is this relationship that gives Nick any hope for the future and the Captain acts as Nick's only ally. Yet in the movie, the profoundness of this relationship is stripped down. Overall, I think that the movie and the book are wonderful! I fully enjoyed both. I have to say that I might have even enjoyed the movie a bit more than the book (but the jury is still out on that).Get more detail about Thank You for Smoking.

Where To Buy The Hangover (Unrated)

OK, it's all been done before, but not with the brilliant inclusion of Zach Galafianakis. Director Todd Phillips put together this somewhat simple film about a bunch of regular guys on a Bachelor Party trip to Vegas, but to add Zach to the mix, everything goes hilariously wrong, but in a more original way than most films about idiot behavior. Cooper, Bartha and Helms are adults with their own very different agendae; add future brother-in-law Zach, a slightly socio-impaired individual, and insanity ensues. There's no end of fun, and Heather Graham is there in a delightful performance, quite lovable. I enjoyed this film a lot. The DVD had no extras, and that was a REAL bummer.Script was quite fine, and the woman who played Helms' fiancée was the perfect bitch. Worth watching!Get more detail about The Hangover (Unrated).

Shop For Dark Mirror

I really enjoyed Dark Mirror. It's not your typical scary movie, but that's what makes it so good. The story grips you right from the beginning and never lets you go. It's a very spooky, suspenseful thrill ride that kept me so off balance I didn't see the very clever plot twist at the end of the film coming. The direction is superb as are the performances. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy. However, I would recommend NOT watching this one alone!Get more detail about Dark Mirror.

When Harry Met Sally

I know its kind of silly but I still like this movie. I waited a long time to see it again but when I did, I say it in the blue ray version which just made it a lot more fun. I dont know why they dont make more romantic comedies then they do these days.Get more detail about When Harry Met Sally.

Troy - Director's Cut Review

Originally we were sent the wrong movie but told we could keep "300" and they would reorder and send us the right one. This took several days to clear up the situation and my husband was not very pleased in the length of time it took to get his birthday present. Though I appreciated their gesture of keeping the first dvd, we did not enujoy it and ultimately gave it away while waiting for Troy. I would question doing business with them honestly.Get more detail about Troy - Director's Cut.

Precious Top Quality

This movie was filled with a lot of sad moments but it really told a good story. I first was at my friend Isacc's house when I saw this movie. The one thing that I really like about this movie is it gets right to the point and it does not take long for it to get under way. The mom in this movie is someone that you would consider evil. She is so brutally mean to Precious during this movie it's unreal. Midway through the movie when Precocious brings home her first kid she lets her mom hold the kid and what does she do? She through the baby right on the floor. The movie is hard to take in because the reason that Precious is having these kids is because her mom is making her have sex with her boyfriend that way she can stay on welfare and get more money from the government for having another kid. One of the best scenes in the movie is when Precocious stands up for herself and fights back at her mother after she troughs her baby on the ground. It is a braking point in the movie and one that I won't forget. I would say this movie was definitely worth all the awards it was nominated for and the ones it got. I have not read the book but to me if the book is anything like the movie it had to be pretty good. I will go with 4 out of 5 stars and a recommendation to pick up this DVD.Get more detail about Precious.

For Those Who Think Young This instant

What a fantastic show. The scripts, the acting and clothes are superb, first rate. I can fully understand how it received 16 emmy nominations. This show is the first show since the Seinfeld (although huge Soprano fan) that I felt I had to be home to watch. his is a show that I wished would never end. My only issue with Season 2 is that it's so short. It's like buying a quart of ice cream, which really isn't a quart anymore but you're paying the same prices. I can remember when a season on tv was 24 episodes. T With that all said, I would probably rent Season 3. Owning the discs with only 12 episodes makes me feel cheated-just like Bets!Get more detail about For Those Who Think Young.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan Immediately

I have tio admit one thing before I begin: I am in any way, shape or form a audio/video/DvD/Blu-Ray/video game freak so I cannot and WILL NOT comment on the actual production qualities of this DVD. I don't care about how much they clean up the sound and remix it, or if it sounds better in Dolby Digital or DTS, or if the picture looks grainy or what not ( as long as it looks good ), and God knows what else. I go the movie theaters to sit down for 2 hours, watch an enjoyable film and then I pass judgement on it and if I enjoy it or not I will remember it. Being a long-time fan of the Star Trek series I recently watched this film on Netflix after not having seen it in over 10 years, and I think this Star Trek flim, the best of the series, only gets better with age. Nothing about this flim could be better insofar as the Star Trek universe is concerned, and of course the late great Ibero-Latino actor Ricardo Montalban was the standout. So on to my review, and this is just a character study, and I won't give away the film to those who HAVEN"T seen it:

After spending more than 15 years in exile on a planet known as Seti-Alpha 5, the great " gentically modified Superman from the late 20th century ", a former warlord and prince of late 20th century Earth, the villanous Khan ( played by the late great superbly famous and well-respected Ricardo Montalban, God please preserve him and keep his soul safe ) is able to extract revenge upon the hero of the Star Trek universe, the legendary revered and lauded greatest Captian of the United federation of Planets, Captain James T. ( Tiberius ) kirk. He, of course, does not succeed but this film emphasises and illustrates the great havoc and tragedy the great sin " wrath " can wreak upon a person's soul and the people it is directed at.

Khan, a megalomanical madman who was a lesser version of Adolf Hitler in his own time, was awakened out of his cryogenic bedchamber along with members of the crew of ship 15 years earlier by Captian Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise, all of whom are in this movie. Through the course of that episode of the origial " Star Trek " series, which I can recall bits and pieces of, Khan tried to commandeer the Enterprise and kill the crew but was stopped and ultimately defeated. Kirk, being a just man and not prone to the violent and sadistic tendencies of a man like Khan, chose to exile him and his crew on a lush, green, fertile planet known as Seti-Alpha 5 and thought that that was the last he would ever hear of him. Since Seti-Alpha 5 had so much going for it as a planet, Khan accepted, brought along his crew and also brought along his girlfriend, a very beautiful crewmember of the Enterprise, who had fallen in love with him and most likely later became his wife ( to whom he was referring to early in the movie, which was most likely the key component fueling his hatred towards Captian Kirk ).

15 years later Khan was discovered BY ACCIDENT on planet thought to be Seti-Alpha 6 by a Federation vessel and that's when Khan's wrath broke loose. The ensuing cat-and-mouse game was a true game of human chess to watch unfold on the screen and Khan's venemous hatred could be felt even across the screen ( the mark of a truly great actor, the ability to elicit emotions in the crowd. Actors who have perfected their craft are able to do such things well, they are like charges of electricity. Some are more intense than others, some you don't feel at all. Ricardo Montalban was a great actor. )

Captian Kirk, belng a wily and crafty man, was trying desperetely to keep up with his opponent and was doing well, but he was aided in great part by his best friend, occasional opponent, mentor and almost half-brother the alien from the planet Vulcan, Spock ( played by Leonard Nimoy ). Without Spock's guidance it would be easy to surmise that the games between Kirk and Khan would have reached a fever pitch and the ensuing clash would have resulted in the destruction of many lives, but the sacrifices we make " are for the good of the many ". And thus, tragedy ensued and carried over into the next 2 Star Trek flims. Star Trek 2: The Warth of Khan was really the first part of a 3-story arc that culminated in Star Trek 4. You cannot watch this film and not watch the other 2 because they are bital in knowing how this story reached it's culmination.

Star Trek is an institution that has inspired generations of people to look beyond the limits of the Earth and themselves and ask themselves questions about their lives, the Earth, the world around them, and ultimately what it heams to be alive, and more specifically, human. Forget the negative connotations people have about Star Trek fans, the much ridculted and lampooned " Trekkies ", becauae those are the people who have true enlightenment and will look forward to the cosmos and keep the shining light of the human race burning forever, if we can learn to get along like the citizens of the United Federation of Planets do. We don't have to be friends, one big happy family, or even like each other, but like the Star Trek universe the world is large and everybody can prosper in their own natural environments if they don't have the constraints that people who would like to oppress others, such as Khan, would like to impose upon others. that's why the United States of America should NEVER, EVER ABANDON IT'S SPACE PROGRAM AND LET IT BE DEVELOPED BY NATIONS THAT ARE NOT OUR FRIENDS. SUPPORT OUR AEROSPACE INDUSTRY AND KEEP AMERICA STRONG AND ALWAYS LOOKING SKYWARD INTO THE HEAVENS. Freedom is the universal dream of all living creatures, so why don't we keep striving for limitless boundaries?Get more detail about Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Shaun of the Dead Best Quality

This film was funnier, than the more recent, "Zombieland". Partly, because, they did it first, combined humor, with the horror genre. Also, it had the element of British humor, which made it quite unique from, the previously mentioned film. Combined with some good characters, that were generally funny to watch, as well.Get more detail about Shaun of the Dead.
