Discount Crank 2: High Voltage

3.8 stars

I loved the first Crank and the first time I saw this sequel was disappointed. But watching the two back to back yesterday made me realize that Crank:High Voltage was simply one-upping the first in anarchic fashion, and seen from that perspective, and with all expectations turned off, this is one weird, wild flick.

Neveldine and Taylor shoot in HD and this blu-ray disc is amazing, state of the art like their other movies. And that crispness is well-used by the insane shots and colorful weirdness here, as well as some nicely washed out scenes with flat color palettes that contrast nicely. If you like eye candy, you'll love this. And if you like being surprised, step right up.

The story makes zero effort at seriousness; the word "implausible" is mentioned early on and is a good watchword for C:HV. Nothing here is meant to be taken seriously, merely to be entertaining. Crank's silly Chinatown scene is echoed by a horse race version, a sign that N/T are here purely for the laughs and the action. And Amy Smart delevers a whole new side of raunchy goofiness to her character this time around.

While not as non-stop as Crank, HV does have more than its share of action, and the whole recharge theme is played for laughs pretty well, especially as Statham gives his all to those shots. His face is very funny at times, and this must be his most humorous turn to date.

Too wild and weird for some, no doubt, this movie will be perfect eye candy/brainfreeze for others. If you like Statham, Smart, the craziness and visual clarity of N/T, and/or general insanity, then you'll enjoy this silly ride.Get more detail about Crank 2: High Voltage.

Cheapest Superman Returns

Superman Returns has had a controversial run this far on video. The standard definition that Warner Brother's released first, was a jaw-dropping disaster (even as regular dvd goes). The compression problems, the color reproduction, the banding and aliasing...ugh. I had been bummed out by this having seen it in IMAX 3D where it looked positivelt luminous. It was a flagship release for HD DVD, and the problems continued there and with it's first Bluray release in 2006. The picture and sound were enormously problematic. WB wisely kept track of the complaints much like Sony did on the first release of The Fifth Element. This release looks and sounds terrific. It's not perfect, but it's not perfect in a way most people will notice. There still is evidence of digital noise reduction (DNR), which is a fancy way of saying the picture has been smoothed out to remove compression noise and film grain. I'm fine with the absence of compression noise, which is a technical flaw, but I love film grain because it is what lets me know it has been sourced from the original print, and it renders detail second to none. This print still looks gorgeous for the most part. Color and black levels are generally excellent, albeit muted, which is more to do with Bryan Singer's vision of the film. X-Men has a similar look. The horrible technical flaws which were so disappointing in the standard definition DVD version are gone, and this is an exciting, often beautiful print. Some of the murkier scenes really are more to do with Singer's muted pallette. The sound has been upgraded as well with Dolby TrueHD and LPCM. It is an exhilarating and pulverizing soundtrack. The jetliner rescue is just awesome. Ambient surrounds, music and dialogue are all supber. I loved the iconic flight between Supe and Lois. The special effects look luminous and the music reproduction is superb. I know there are some gripes, but this is the version to have and it is a "must upgrade" if you have the SD version.Get more detail about Superman Returns.

Buying Underworld: Evolution

This movie falls short of the original, and is plainly, a horrible sequel. Without the enigmatic Lucien, the charismatic Viktor and the sinister Kraven, the plot falls short and is boring. When those characters died, the story died, as did the incredible acting. Bill Nighy (Viktor) and Michael Sheen (Lucien) were what made the first movie and are both highly talented actors. Scott Speedman (Michael) is a boring character, and a mediocre actor. I did not feel the chemistry between him and Selene in this movie just like I didn't see it in the first movie.

There was nothing interesting going on with the raunchy sex scenes and the whole Corvinus family storyline with Marcus and William. BORING.

I only give it 2 stars because of some scenes from the past featuring my favorite character Viktor in it. Other than that, it's a 1 star movie and not really worth seeing.

Purchase Knocked Up

lets face it, Apatow, Rogan and the gang are all very talented and hilarious. sure the characters are almost always simplified to demonstrate a certain persona of ourselves, but that doesnt stop the movie's message from ringing clear and the trip to be an enjoyable, and funny, one.

i doubt anyone is here reading this having not heard anything about the people involved in the flick, but if you enjoy the gang, then this is highly recommended. if you have never watch an apatow film, 40 yr old virgin is a better place to start (all his films are pretty much a 50/50 mix of his 2 television shows, "undeclared" and "freaks & geeks")

one thing i must recommend to newbies and fans alike, watch the plethora of outtakes on the bluray release, there are some plot arcs and ongoing jokes that were completely cut from the movie that are just hilarious!Get more detail about Knocked Up.

Order A History of Violence

A History of Violence is a film about Tom Stall (Viggo Mortensen)l a loving husband and father to a family with two children in a small town in Indiana. Corn fields surround his rural area home and he drives a pick-up truck. Tom also owns a small diner in town and has been in this town and married, living a quiet idyllic existence for about twenty years.

The movie slowly builds and develops complexity when Tom stops a vicious robbery in his diner. He protects his innocent employees and customers in amazing defensive and offensive reflexes beyond what normal men can do. Tom reminded me of a Clark Kent that can turn into his alter-ego Superman when needed. (His son also shows Tom's quick reflexes and thinking when he is unfairly attacked by high school bullies. By standing up to the bully and his friends he gains respect and the right to be left alone.)

Unfortunately for Tom, he is featured as a hero on several news stations as well as the newspaper. His life and face are in the spotlight, which immediately signals a threatening mobster from out of town (Ed Harris). He arrives into town with two thugs with a story that Tom attacked him and ruined his face and eye with barbed wire. Tom's past is unpeeled layer by layer as he struggles to protect his family from his violent past.

After the two confrontations and killing out of town mobsters, Tom is ruinited with his "good guy" brother, Ritchie (William Hurt). Ritchie is mixed up with the mob and wants vengence with Tom for leaving him "holding the bag" from the past. The acting does not skip a beat - the casting is excellent and the movie is mesmerizing. This is a top-notch psychological thriller, putting light on beliefs, relationships and the audacity of using violence to protect and save relationships.Get more detail about A History of Violence.

Shop For Tidal Wave

In spite of what the other reviewer has stated, the South Korean film "Tidal Wave" is a disaster movie! And a very touching and
heartfelt one at that!!!!!Unlike most of your typically-mindless
Hollywood blockbuster fare, you get a great character driven story
before the special effects galore happen(aka: disaster)! The first hour and at least 15 to 20 minutes of the film are all about the main characters and focuses on what really drives them and makes
them tick. The story is set in Haeundae,South Korea and focuses on
the upper class, the middle class, and the lower class workers around
the beach area and the city itself and their characters are developed in very interesting ways and the last 40 minutes of the
film is when the MEGA-TSUNAMI strikes the paradise resort city and
focuses on not only just who makes it and who doesn't but also how their lives are completely changed afterwards! There is also dashes
here and there of humor scattered throughout the film just to keep
you from getting too upset. The special effects are truly eye popping and mind blowing and is just as good if not SUPERIOR TO the tidal wave special effects that we've seen in Hollywood disaster movies like:"The Day After Tomorrow","Poseidon",and "2012"!The director of photography also captures some of
the most beautiful and lavish scenery I would never have imagined
existed in Haeundae,South Korea.Who knows how even more lavish and
beautiful it looks on blu-ray since I only have it on DVD.The DVD
special features include the following: deleted scenes, gag reel, the
making of Tidal Wave, and The Project. You can also watch the movie in its original Korean language with English subtitles or in an
English dubbed track.Personally,I prefer it in its original language with English subtitles.I hope this review was helpful.Get more detail about Tidal Wave.

The Sum of All Fears This instant

In easily the most horrible Clancy adaptation ever, The Sum of All Fears produces not only a nuclear blast on U.S. soil, but something just as damaging: overwhelming political correctness. The screenwriter for this film changed the villains from Islamic terrorists (something current) to a rogue neo-Nazi group (something anachronistic), and it is a completely flagrant, transparent, sanitized placation of the PC crowd.

Essentially the plot involves neo-Nazis detonating a mid-football game nuke in Baltimore to goad the United States into a nuclear war with a failing Russian government. Yeah, because there will be a lot of land and nothing but good times after the U.S. and Russia go all Jackson Pollock with nukes across the world. Pretty stupid, huh? Well, the problems after that are numerous.

First, after dropping a nuke nobody would stick around to see their handiwork. This is not a suicide-bomber or serial killer. Second, could someone explain to the cast and crew what an EMP actually does? If a massive one hits downtown Baltimore, there will not be operational handheld electronics or helicopter radios, and they certainly shouldn't be used to advance the storyline. Speaking of the helicopter, if one gets rocked out of the sky by the concussive force of a mushroom cloud, I doubt someone is walking away, much less saving the day like Ryan. Finally, why is Ryan still in the Baltimore/D.C. area shortly after the explosion? Why does the movie end with him kicking his feet up in relaxation as if there isn't fallout? It'd been more believable if he had a third eye on his forehead or looked like visitor to the bar from Total Recall.

It is obvious Ben Affleck is not Jack Ryan. Sure, he's playing a former military officer with a law degree who is employed by the CIA as a foreign affairs analyst, but he's way too young (in his late 20s when filmed) for this role. He's neither Alec Baldwin nor Harrison Ford, two actors who actually look as if they could be Jack Ryan. The best he could possibly hope for is to be a younger version; a mouth-breathing, late-20 something, semi-serious entry level employee who would be more comfortable at a Frat house than a political environment. He's as miscast as Denise Richards would be playing a nuclear physicist. (Oops!) Come to think of it, why WASN'T she cast for that role in this movie? It would have been just as believable.

Aside from Morgan Freeman's portrayal of Bill Cabot (Director of the CIA), there wasn't much I enjoyed other than a fun scene in which Ryan misses a date with his fiancé and tells her that his boss (i.e. Cabot) needs him to board a plane to Russia instead. Most of the time spent watching this movie involved me looking down at my watch, which is sad considering the realistic nature of the topic and source material.

Gamer Order Now

With that phrase,so ends John Tilman's nightmare for him and the family that gave him the courage he needed to survive the "game".And what a trip/game it was to get from A to B in this film.A non stop action flick from beginning to end,Gamer(released Sept/09)comes from the same imaginative team that gave us the high adrenaline Crank films,Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine;and there is no lack of that heart-fueling adrenaline in this flick either.
The story involves one John Tilman(aka Kable)who is the current rage in a game called Slayers. The game is real as are the players within the game. Each player has a real person controlling them from afar and John's happens to be a 17 year gaming whiz named Simon(Logan Lehrman).Through the immersing technology on hand Simon literally sees and hears everything John hears as he takes his "player"(John)through an intense fire-fight course from grisly beginning to bloody end. After surviving 30 games John will be allowed to leave the game and Simon has taken John, unprecedentedly, almost all the way through.
The creator of this gaming world,Ken Castle(Michael Hall),was also the creator of another wildly popular interactive game, the Sims-like Society. However Castle's dreams are over exceeding his grasp as his real motives lie in trying to control the rest of society. He hopes to be able to inject his brain controlling nanobots into millions of people thereby controlling everyone. But a rebel group called Humanz is out to stop Castle's grasp of power. They contact Simon and give him a mod that enables Simon to actually talk with John during game play.Inevitably this leads to John finally breaking out of the game during what was to be his last fight and tracking down his family. With the help of the people in Humanz he is able to get he and his wife's independence back and which leads to the inevitable showdown with the person who has his only daughter;Castle himself.Things are nip and tuck but Tilman in the end, with a little help from the remaining elements of Humanz, defeats Castle and brings down his dynasty.
This is a look at todays gaming world flung into the future and brought to a higher, more violent, more interactive and a more highly intense experience;assisted ably through its' great plot,SFX,editing and non stop action. The writing and directing team of Taylor and Neveldine have created a wonderful Sci Fi winner of a concept and they never let the action or your interest wane for more than a few seconds,if ever.I found myself riveted to the action/plot throughout and that's something that few movies can accomplish these days. Also what can't be stated enough is the absolutely fantastic look and feel of this film, all done through the actual camera itself.I first heard of this relatively new camera system called "Red" back in early 2007 and this is the first mainstream film I have actually seen it used in and it is awesome,to say the least. The look is a combination of alot of things but sepia tones and alot of saturated pastels dominate throughout. The camera shots, twists and turns are done at break neck speeds as the creators strive to give we the viewer a more movie-immersing experience. And it works, all of it works as this is a film,I for one, will definitely watch more than a few times to try to catch something I missed from the previous viewing. Finally I must also give a nod to the films lead actor Gerard Butler whose intensity throughout really enhances the entire proceedings.
On the technical side of things the film is clear and crisp and beautifully transferred to DVD with its widescreen format in tact and the sound fantastic. The extras include audio commentary, three 30 minute featurettes on the making of the film, likewise a featurette on the RED camera system used and the trailer.
All in all one of the better Sci-Fi films I have seen in recent times. Its Sci-Fi premise alone will certainly be a drawing card to all the fans of that genre but throw in the gaming world angle as well and well, there's a much wider audience right there.I recommend the movie highly;the game is on!Get more detail about Gamer.

Lowest Price We Were Soldiers

Although I was initially hesitant to We Were Soldiers thanks to Randall Wallace and Mel Gibson at the helm, I was pleasantly surprised at We Were Soldiers, which is an honest to god thanks to the soldiers of Vietnam. Mel Gibson and Randall Wallace butchered impressive ancient warfare with horrendous writing and directing, and I don't even want to think about the horrible abomination known as Pearl Harbor. Luckily, Randal Wallace learned after all those misfires and created We Were Soldiers, which actually honors the soldiers of The Vietnam War, something no other war film has never really done. The closest thing? The Green Berets. Ugh. We Were Soldiers is graphic, yes, but as some of the other reviewers can attest, this is what it was really like. This film succeeds because of this, as it does for Vietnam veterans what Saving Private Ryan did for WW2 Veterans.

We Were Soldiers is much different than other war films such as Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket. While the aforementioned movies do more for me personally, We Were Soldiers is much different from those other films as it gives an honest and straight up thanks to the soldiers of Vietnam. It strips away most of the the political and tension that went on during the Vietnam War and focuses squarely on the soldiers and the home front. No other war film before really did an open letter to the soldiers, and for that reason We Were Soldiers is much more superior to say, Platoon, which in comparison sucks pretty hard (as you can tell, I don't like Platoon that much). Even better, it doesn't make the opposing soldiers seem like inhumane monsters either, but it also takes something's viewpoint to determine that, and I'll leave it at that.

The film also reduces Mel Gibson to merely just acting (both Braveheart and Passion of the Christ seem they were made by a sadist, and one was silly and the other was a glorified snuff film), something that seemed to help The Patriot as well (though that had another problematic Director, Roland Emmerich). Although I initially was reluctant to watch this movie thanks to Mel Gibson (reasons above), he gives a stoic and reserved performance, very in contrast to his wildly silly Braveheart performance. I also do think after watching some Mel Gibson movies that South Park's charicture of Mel Gibson is juvenile and childish beyond belief, even though I can't argue with South Park's spot on observation of The Passion of the Christ (hated it as a Christian, hate it as an Agnostic).

We Were Soldiers is a dramatization of the Battle of la Drang, based on Hal Moore's account of the battle as written by him. For the most part, that's pretty much it. However, We Were Soldiers works because of that, as it gives a sense of what Vietnam war veterans went through. Another well made part is the home front, which shows what the people at home go through as well. While I'm not married, I can really sense what it's like when young couples are seperated, and even more what their wives would feel when they learn of the death of their own husbands. I also liked the feeling of what it is like to tell a young child what war is about, it's no easy feat to explain that to a child.

The battle scenes are extremely well made, and while they have a soundtrack, it adds to the carnage. They are set in winding fields that add extreme confusion, with high doses of napalm and muzzle attacks. They sound brutal and amazing, and Wallace's direction adds tension and a sense of instinct that other war films don't have. This film, like other war films of recent memory, are very violent, with people being burned, people's heads being ripped up by machine guns, and skin sliding off of a soldiers who was doused with napalm. I do have one problem, and that would be the final charge, as the cheesy voice over ruins that battle. Luckily. I really can't find fault in the battle scenes, which are first rate. I certainly think they did an excellent job at making Vietnam warfare seem very real.

I'll give the last word to the Vietnam veterans who have spoken well about this film. We Were Soldiers is quite underrated actually, and the critics who found it cheesy really need to have their tastes checked, in my opinion. It may not quite stake out new grounds, but it's still an open letter to the Vietnam war and leaves out all of the crappy politics. All that ____ really doesn't matter anyway, and no matter how it happened, people are killed either way. Why the hell does it matter. Ah, I'm ranting. Just check We Were Soldiers out. It likely won't soften up to the hardest cynics, but one who can understand the casualties of each side will surely enjoy it. If anything, the battle scenes are great. Either way, see it.Get more detail about We Were Soldiers.

Cheap Pilot

DARY.

And so is watching it on VoD. The fact that I can watch this on my PC, my Xbox, and my Bluray player absolutely makes it the best way to watch it. (Apparently it has support for mobile devices as well, although I don't believe my Zune is supported)

The show itself is fun, witty, and generally entertaining. As far as comedies go, it's probably my favorite on television right now. (Who knew CBS could put out a decent show?) The characters are lovable (sometimes I hate Lily), and the story is engaging. (WHO IS THEIR MOTHER? HOW DID THEY MEET?)

One other thing, I just realized you can watch it on the site as well! Amazing. (Why isn't this on Hulu? Probably so people can buy it on Amazon)

My ONLY qualm is that the quality of the first few seasons (including this one) are lacking. Obviously that's because of budget concerns on the show's end, so I won't dock a star.

Bottom line: this show is amazing, and you should be watching it immediately.Get more detail about Pilot.

Buying As Good As It Gets

"As Good As It gets" is one of the best movies from the 1990's. Winner of the Oscar for Best Picture (1997), the film garnered Jack Nicholson another Academy Award for Best Actor and won Helen Hent the Oscar for Best Actress. Nicholson plays Melvin Udall who suffers from a mental illness called obsessive complusiveness (while walking on a sidewalk Melvin refuses to step on cracks!). Melvin also has the mouth of a sewer and isn't overly friendly, but while babysitting a neighbor's dog, and with the help of a kind and outgoing waitress, Melvin realizes the true meaning of friendship and how people are suppose to act with each other. "As Good As It Gets" was a hit at the boxoffice and was on many critics lists as the Best Picture of 1997. Everything about the movie jells, from the acting to the direction along with an excellent script. The movie co-stars Greg Kinnear as the gay neighbor and was directed by James L. Brooks. The disc, which is double sided, comes with both full and widescreen formats, commentary, and more. Super Size Me

Entertaining, shocking and horrifying details follow and the viewer gets an education that may inspire some serious rethinking of what is allowed on said viewer's table. Well worth the time investment.

Super Size Me inspired my family's love of quirky documentaries. (Super Size Me is also joined by the classic Best In Show Mockumentary on our list of favorites.) Though we first saw Super Size Me a few years ago it is in our DVD library and we have watched it several times. And our youngest daughter used Spurlock's findings in a recent term paper.

Though this documentary was just the beginning of our awareness of what you eat can kill you, Super Size Me made a lasting difference in our lives. Now bad choices in food are still guilt-ridden but Spurlock's experiment and the knowledge that came from it helps us to avoid mindless eating. This documentary was fascinating from a medical and psychological standpoint and entertaining, too. The extras are worth watching.

Moon Review

Yes, this is another movie of which we could draw parallels between this and several other movies that we seen and know and love. Yes, we can pretty much guess what is happening. However, this movie does have its own story and plays out in its own way. It is well worth watching.

Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) has been working a three-year stint for Luna industries. He is overseeing the mining and collection of clean energy on the far side of the Moon. In two weeks, he will be going home. He is starting to hallucinate. While concentrating on one of his hallucinations is involved in an accident. While recovering he overhears is a conversation between his caretaker robot and the Corporation. He is beginning to think the Corporation has other plans for him.

So is Sam Bell still hallucinating? On the other hand, are we just paranoid? On the other hand, does our clean energy company have a dirty little secret?

Watch this well paced movie and find out (maybe).

Finally, we have a movie that that not have a lot of drum beating in the background ever time the action picks up. You can tell the miniatures are miniatures. However, it does not distract.

I only saw the Blu-ray version so I cannot compare to others. The voice over commentary is not that informative. The BD live is no really that alive and the other DVD extras are humdrum.

Platoon Immediately

That's the title card to Oliver Stone's 1986 Vietnam War masterpiece "Platoon", but you're not going to see much rejoicing in this film 'cause it identifies the Vietnam infantry experience as no less than hell on earth.

THE PLOT: Chris Taylor naively volunteers for combat in Vietnam (late '67 through '68) and slowly adapts to the jungle warfare and becomes an adequate grunt. A rift eventually develops between the senior sergeant, Barnes (Tom Berenger), and the junior sergeant, Elias (Willem Dafoe); the former a veritable indestructible killing machine and the latter an expert soldier who refuses to allow the horrors of war to rob him of his humanity.

"Platoon" is masterful moviemaking in practically every way and towers over most other Vietnam war flicks, with the sole exception of "Apocalypse Now" (the original version). What works best is the ensemble cast and the numerous memorable characters who all smack of real life -- Taylor, Barnes, Elias, Lt. Wolfe, O'Neill, Bunny, Junior, King, Rhah, Crawford, Tex and Big Harold (amongst others). The idea that any filmmaker can effectively bring to life a dozen or more characters like this in a 2-hour film is uncanny to say the least.

Memorable moments abound, including:

- After stumbling upon a just-abandoned Vietcong nest where a soldier comes up missing, the platoon finds his corpse staked-up down the river and the camera slowly pans across the visage of practically every platoon member culminating with Barnes, who mutters with seething vengeance. This is a potent scene spotlighting a band of American warriors, from very diverse racial/ethnic/socio-economic backgrounds, forced together halfway around the world in some God-forsaken jungle to face an enemy of jungle wraiths.

- After the Barnes/Elias fight at the village Barnes is informed by Captain Harris that there will be a full investigation. Barnes leaves the meeting and walks by his two disciples O'Niell and Bunny. O'Neill asks Barnes if there's going to be an investigation. The laconic Barnes stops but doesn't answer; he just looks away, as if in thought, smoking his cigarette. The camera stays on Barnes while Bunny responds: "O'Neill, man, you worry to much; the sergeant will take care of him." Looking at Barnes' countenance you just KNOW he's contemplating murder. The scene is filmmaking of the highest order.

- In a dugout six of the soldiers who sided with Elias discuss what to do after it appears Elias had been shot by Barnes in combat. They all want to kill the scarred-face Barnes, but Rhah reveals Barnes' stature with the men is nigh mythological at this point; he's been hit seven times and still isn't dead. "Barnes ain't meant to die! The only thing that can kill Barnes is Barnes". A shirtless Barnes suddenly appears, drinking a bottle of whiskey; apparently he heard the whole conversation. He boldly confronts all six with a fascinating rant ("I am reality") and challenges them to kill him. None of them take the bait because they deem him a human tiger, except Taylor, who's no match for Barnes in man-to-man combat. Although Barnes is the villain in the film you can't help but admire his sheer boldness and killer skills; it's clear why the men respect and fear him.

By contrast, Elias is the compassionate, loving and righteous Christ-figure. If there's any doubt to this it's bludgeoned into the viewer via the melodramatic and unrealistic death scene, which can be excused on the grounds of its iconic imagery (the cover of the dvd) and obvious symbolism.

Bunny (Kevin Dillon) is an interesting character. He's young, simple and likable but the war morphs him into a nigh-psychotic killer, so much so that he seriously creeps the other men out. But, again, he somehow maintains an amiable charm, unlike Tex who comes across wholly venomous.

Some have criticized that it's impossible to make a war film that's anti-war on the grounds that war films by their nature make war seem fun in an adventurous way. Not so with "Platoon". How did Stone accomplish this? Well, aside from skillfully showing the hard day-to-day life of infantry men in the jungle, the combat scenes are viewed from the grunt's disoriented perspective where, often, there are no clear battle lines of good guys/bad guys (even within the platoon itself!); the enemy -- ghostly figures who are never clearly seen -- can come from any angle. Anything can and does happen, at anytime. Stone denies the viewer the feeling that this type of jungle combat makes sense. Needless to ask, how can anyone go through such without being inwardly scarred for life?

Some criticize the flagrant cussing but Stone was shooting for realism; I know from experience that this is generally how grunts talk. I don't know about you but, if I'm going to see a war film, I want to see the awful truth, not some cleaned-up fantasy BS.

The ending shows that Barnes & Elias are figurative of flesh & spirit, the conflicting forces within us all. [SPOILER] Taylor reflects, "The war is over for me now, but it will always be there the rest of my days, as I'm sure Elias will be, fighting with Barnes for what Rhah called 'possession of my soul'. There are times since I've felt like a child, born of those two fathers. But, be that as it may, those of us who did make it have an obligation to build again, to teach to others what we know, and to try with what's left of our lives to find a goodness and a meaning to this life."

One Hour Fantasy Girl Decide Now

"One Hour Fantasy Girl"

Survival, Empowerment and Hope

Amos Lassen

Based on a true story, "One Hour Fantasy Girl" is a somewhat raw look at the life of Brandi (Kelly-Ann Tursi) who dreams of a better life. She works as a fantasy girl so that she can one day become a real estate investor. Brandi creates and takes part in any man's fantasy with two conditions--no sex and no kissing. However, her childhood constantly haunts her and she has great trouble sleeping so she practices meditation and chanting as she hopes to find relief. Brandi does not allow pity and lives her life from day to day.
Brandi is really Becky Lewis and there is nothing special about the way she looks. However when she is in room 102 at the California Sunshine Motel, Becky becomes Brandi and is ready to help men have their fantasies. Her business partner, Chi Paul Nguyen) makes all of her arrangements and got her the first client, Roger (Morgan Woodward), a heavy man that fantasizes about being an infant. Brandi gives him a bottle (filled with vodka), plays baby games with him and indulges his wishes. He tests her by asking her to do other things as well in later visits.
Another client Bobby (Joe Luckay) has just come to California from Montana and feels lonely. He found Brandi's website and calls her and finds himself sucked into her aura. He wants to build his discipline by lying in bed with her but not having sex. They actually become quite close, more than she would like and she tries to control the situation.
Brandi is also friendly with Dianthia who works at all night diner and she advises Brandi about her sleepless night but she has her own problems. However, we really never get to know any of the characters well and that is part of the mystique of the film. By not knowing them, we can surmise what we want and thereby become part of the cast.
Edgar Michael Bravo directed the film about getting through life one day at a time. We see the importance of choices and we realize that Becky/Brandi did not make very good ones. I found myself swept up in the film--the direction, the screenplay and the acting are uniformly excellent and the performances of the actors are excellent.

Barbie Diaries Right now

I am the mother of a Barbie-obsessed 4-year-old and bought this unaware of the plot. I like the movie but think it's too mature for my daughter right now. It would be great for a girl in middle school however. I did find it entertaining.Get more detail about Barbie Diaries.

Discount Charlie Wilson's War

I think the acting in this movie is great. Tom Hanks and the CIA agent especially are very convincing characters. Julia Roberts also plays her part well. It is easy to tell a lot of the actual war footage is just that... not real-time or Hollywood effects. The story of Charlie Wilson in this just proves the old adage that truth is stranger [and I might add more entertaining] than fiction!Get more detail about Charlie Wilson's War.

Cheapest Sixteen Candles

This is a great teen flick. It takes you on a walk of teens living different life styles and how kids really do think they have to live up to a style. But when it comes to real love in the movie and real life, Love will out stand the rules of money, fame, style and friends.
Even though its over 20 years old, I love it when it first came out and still love it. And if you own this one, you have to own Some Kind of Wonderful, Breakfast Club, and School Daze.Get more detail about Sixteen Candles.

Purchase Hoodwinked

This is my favorite movie ever. It starts off with the original fairy tale, then gets crazier and wackier further on, until it suddenly ends with an evil bunny chasing down a granny on a muffin tin above a cable car. And it all makes SENSE, too. The animation isn't that great, but I don't mind--it makes the characters seem somehow doll-like, which I think is perfect for a fairy tale retelling. The mood switches from comically serious--the Wolf's story--to crazily insane--lumberjack!--and back again. I especially love how the villain is the bunny, the adorable little Boingo, the last person anyone would ever expect. My whole family adores this movie, from my dad to my five-year-old sister. When my friend and I first saw it, we spent months afterward quoting random lines from it. We still do, sometimes. It's THAT good.Get more detail about Hoodwinked.
